Home Remodel Time
I can’t believe September is upon us already! I know you all are busy, so I’m going to try to keep the words short and let the pics mainly speak for themselves, so you can get on with your Labor Day Weekend!
You know that hill in our front yard? Well, it took a long time for me to figure out exactly what to do with it. I didn’t just want a big blob of dirt, and I also knew that just planting stuff straight on the hill wouldn’t work because it was basically vertical, so water would just flow down the hill instead of soaking into the dirt to water any plants we planted there.
So I decided to build a tiered planter system.
I used two 2x6s and stacked them on top of each other for each layer. I had to dig holes and insert some 2x4s and then screwed the 2x6s into it, using the drill of course because otherwise that task is horrendous. It was kind of like building very short fences.
After I finished building it, I painted it, and I’ll have pics on how it all turned out later. Then came planting wild flowers and watching those grow into a much more beautiful hill.
I also created a planter just below the stairs (in line with the stairs) because the grass was not growing up that high on the hill because, once again, the hill was too vertical there. So I created a planter there as well and planted some cute bushes, which I’ll show you later.
We also started painting the fence, and I got some helpers on this! Rachel helped me with this portion, and the top portion was painted later with help from my lovely mother-in-law. Both on some very hot days, so I definitely appreciated their help because it made it so I only had to be in the sun half as long to painting the fence
Kyle’s dad made the fence post toppers which really gave it a finished look.
What do you guys think so far? I think it’s shaping up. Let me know what you think in a comment. I love seeing your comments!
Have a fabulous Labor Day Weekend!
