The Full Tour of Our House – Part One

Welcome back fellow remodelers, weekend warriors, and those of you who are just interested in seeing what we did with our house.

In our last installment, we talked about how we came to find our first house. Check it out if you haven’t already: How Did We Get Here?

New here? Start back at the beginning: Welcome to One House, One Couple

Now we’re going to give you the full tour of the house, front to back, inside and out.

We’re going to break it up into parts to make it bearable, so all week long will be a celebration of an ugly house!

Today we’re going to show you just the front exterior.

Don’t feel that you have to get a full detailed look of everything at this moment. We’ll be coming back to portions of the house as time goes on. And we’ll definitely be showing you the “before and afters” once it’s complete. That’s the fun part, isn’t it?

Well, here we go. This is what we saw when we first drove up to this house:

From the street, looking down at the house. Ugly chain-link fence, and the neighbor's pile of stuff on the left.

From the other side of the 55 ft wide property, street level, looking down toward the house.

You can see that the yard is a very steep downhill from the street to the house.

Going down the steep driveway to the house. This is pretty much the only way down at this point.

Overall view of the front of the house. Yes, there is a telephone pole sticking out of the house.

Lovely curb appeal. Ugly weedy front yard. But there is an orange tree on the left!

Front porch area. It has cute cottage potential, but definitely needs some TLC!

Standing in the front porch area looking up toward the street. You get an overall front yard view in this picture.

That completes Part One of the Full Tour where you got to see the front yard. Bet you can’t wait to see what we did with it! It was a lot of hard work.

Come back tomorrow and we’ll let you inside!

  1. It might just be the remodeler in me, but I think it’s totally cute!

  2. Wow – looks like a lot of work, but I can definitely see the potential. That driveway scares the crap out of me, but that’s because I’m Canadian and there’s no way you’d catch me driving down that in the winter – lol. But I’m sure you don’t have to deal with that kind of hazard where you are. I’m interested to see how you deal with the telephone pole sticking out of the front of the house ;)

Love that front porch area! Anxious to see your journey. We’ve been working on ours for a little over 2 yrs, taking it room at a time!

I must say that I am in LOVE with the telephone pole through the house. Obviously designed by a genius. I really hope you didn’t change that… :)

  7. Simply wanna remark that you have a very nice website , I love the pattern it really stands out.

thank you. I am actually thinking of changing the pattern to something more rustic because this fancy shmancy stuff just doesn’t scream “Kyle and Lisha” ;)

  8. When we saw our house, the first time, the realtor said we wouldn’t want it. Well within that week the price had been dropped 5k and it was in an amazing section of town. We live in the West End of the San Fernando Valley. We were also beach snobs and at first looked at housing near LAX. Anyways, the roof and ceilings were new, there was a new stove top and new oven. With these upgrades the realtor said I’d buy it, it’s a great price and it’s in a great location. We’ve lived here 15 years and still have much to do on the house but it’s home. :)
